Compact Corner - Exclusive NLC Content for NCSBN Members

Now Accepting NLC Committee Volunteers



 

Do you have a lot of experience and knowledge to share? Would you like to put your skills to use and volunteer for an NLC Committee or Task Force?

On behalf of Chair Kim Glazier and the NLC Executive Committee, we would like to share the current vacancies for which we are seeking volunteers:


 
  • Training and Education Committee: one vacancy
  • Policy Committee: one vacancy
  • Research Committee: one vacancy
  • Technical Task Force: one vacancy (volunteers should be Nursys-savvy and a frequent Nursys report user)


The committee volunteer form is available here (Passport login required). Please share it with any staff or attorneys who may have an interest in NLC committee involvement. All meetings are virtual.

All volunteer forms submitted by Sept. 15 will be considered for appointment at the Sept. 29-30 Executive Committee meeting.

Committee charges are referenced in the Committee Roster (Passport login required).

  3. Save your work; and  
  4. Attach the PDF in an email to [email protected].


All applications will be vetted and reviewed by the NLC Executive Committee and selected candidates will be appointed and informed via email

 

 

Welcome New NLC Commissioners!

With new states enacting compact legislation, it is an exciting time for the NLC! We would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest NLC Commissioners. Whether your state just recently enacted compact legislation or you are new to your respective role at your board of nursing (BON), we are excited to work with you, answer any questions and provide any information you or your BON staff needs regarding the NLC. Welcome to the compact!

 


 

Zennia Pecina
Executive Director, Guam Board of Nursing Examiners
Gov. Lourdes "Lou" Leon Guerrero signed the NLC into law on March 5, 2021, making Guam the first U.S. territory and 35th jurisdiction to enact the NLC.
 

 


 

Shiela Boni, MSN, RN
Executive Director, Vermont State Board of Nursing
Gov. Phil Scott signed the NLC into law in the state of Vermont on June 7, 2021. This makes Vermont the 36th jurisdiction to enact the NLC.
 

 


 

Kelly Jenkins, MSN, RN, NE-BC
Executive Director, Kentucky Board of Nursing
Kelly was appointed effective May 16, 2021.
 

 


 

Lori Hart, PhD, APRN, CNE
Executive Director (interim), Wyoming State Board of Nursing
Lori was appointed effective June 4, 2021.

Cynthia LaBonde, MN, RN
Cynthia retired from her position as Executive Director, Wyoming Board of Nursing, effective on June 4, 2021. LaBonde’s departure marks the culmination of over nine years of service.
 

 


 

Jessica Estes, DNP, APRN-NP
Jessica transitioned from her position as Executive Director, Kentucky Board of Nursing, effective on May 16, 2021. Estes’s departure marks the culmination of more than two years of service.
 

Thank you for everything you've done for the NLC -- for your service, dedication and contributions. Congrats on a job well done!

 

 

NLC Conference Series Recordings Now Available



 

The first-ever virtual NLC conference series officially kicked off on May 5 and concluded on June 9. Throughout the conference, various NLC committee members shared their expertise and showcased specific NLC Committee work related to compact operations. Participants were provided with unique opportunities to participate in interactive learning exercises.

Missed it? It’s not too late to participate in this virtual learning journey. You may access the recorded sessions via the NLC members only page (login required).

This series is intended to be your guide towards successful operations in order to help you navigate the NLC and know where to turn when questions or issues arise.

 

 

Free Topic-specific NLC Public Webinars

Anyone interested in learning more about the NLC can register for our free public webinars. The July-December schedule is now available and registration is open online. These twice-monthly webinars feature content that’s either topic or audience-specific and cover the most frequently asked questions from the public. Content includes a general overview of the NLC, an explanation of primary state of residency, regular legislative updates and much more. Please share this information with your licensees and hospitals so they may gain valuable NLC information.

 


 

 

Annual Meeting Kicks Off Executive Committee Elections

The elections for the NLC Executive Committee are just around the corner! 
 
The terms of three positions will expire on Sept. 30, 2021. These positions include: 
 


 
Chair
  • Currently held by Kim Glazier (Oklahoma)

Member-at-Large (2)
  • Currently held by Joe Baker (Florida)
  • Currently held by Pam Zickafoose (Delaware)
 

The Elections Committee encourages qualified candidates to consider nomination for the positions. We will begin accepting nominations at the 2021 NLC Annual meeting on Aug. 17 and nominations will continue to be accepted until Sept. 1, 2021
 
All nominees will need to submit a bio of 100 words or less along with a photo by Sept. 1, 2021. An electronic ballot will be sent to Commissioners on Sept. 20, 2021 and the voting period will remain open from Sept. 20-30, 2021
 
The Executive Committee for fiscal year 2022 will be announced on Oct. 1, 2021

Legislative Update

  • Vermont enacted the NLC on June 7. The implementation date is Feb. 1, 2022.
  • Pennsylvania enacted the NLC on July 1, 2021. The implementation date is to be determined.
  • Ohio enacted the NLC on July 1, 2021. The implementation date is Jan. 1, 2023.
  • Delaware passed the APRN Compact on June 22; awaiting enactment
